- What is AGCF?
Acts Graduate Christian Fellowship (AGCF) is a Christian campus ministry that desires to share the good news of Christ to all we meet. All are welcome to join us, whether you are new to Christianity and want to find out what it is all about or a Christian looking for a spiritual home. Through Bible studies, fun fellowship, good food, exciting outings and other activities, we come together to learn about God, life, and one another. AGCF is affiliated with a local Baptist church, but we welcome all students!
- Why Acts?
Acts 2:42, a specific verse in the New Testament reads: “They [the fellowship of Christians] devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (NIV) We are dedicated to applying this verse to our group, our fellowship time, and our everyday lives.
- When do you have Bible studies?
These days we are meeting in small groups. The brothers are meeting Friday at 7:00 pm for carpool in front of the GCC, while the sisters meet at roughly the same time but at a different place.
- What happens at a Bible study?
As with all our events, Bible studies are low-key meetings that start at 7:30 pm and end around 9:30 pm, although you are welcome to stay longer to hang out, and many of us do. Typically, there will be announcements about future group events and a speaker who will address a Scriptural passage and talk about its relevance to our everyday lives. Afterward, you can head back to study or hang out with us, watching movies, playing games, eating food, and much more. In the past, we have also done themed series on purpose-driven life and relationships.
- What do I have to bring to Bible study?
A Bible if you have one, but we have extras if you forget or don’t have one. Some people prefer to have pen and paper handy for jotting down notes, while others feel they benefit more from just being attentive and participating.
- Will there be food provided at the weekly Bible studies?
Even if you’ve only been at Stanford for one day, you should know by now that every campus group provides food at their meetings. Normally we'll have some snacks, but on special occasions we may even have a full gourmet meal!
- What activities do you have besides Bible Study?
We enjoy growing in fellowship with one another through movies, sports and games (laser-tag, volleyball, tennis, hiking and board games), and eating. We also enjoy reaching out to the community through volunteer/service activities. Occasionally, we like to take short trips to the city or to the nearby mountains and beaches. Suggestions are always welcome.
- Do I have to be a Christian to attend AGCF? Will I be required to pray or participate in any religious activity?
Absolutely not to both questions! Our meetings are about studying the Bible, making friends, and learning about God. Anyone can come, whether you’re a devout Christian, or just someone questioning whether the Bible has the answers to the questions you want to ask.
- I am interested in learning about Christianity. What should I do?
Start with the Bible and study it with us! Or just come and meet Christians in our group. We have a weekly informal discussion group just for exploring questions about faith. If your course-load isn't too heavy, we also offer extra-optional courses covering the basics of Christian beliefs and answers to the toughest questions about our faith. We believe salvation and faith are very personal experiences. We respect your right to decide what you feel comfortable doing.
- I’d like to go to a church. Where do you guys go?
Most of the staff and student members of AGCF attend a local Baptist church every Sunday. Please let us know if you’re interested in attending, and we will be happy to give you a ride!
- I am a Christian. Does AGCF offer any discipleship or leadership training?
Absolutely – we seek to share the Word of God with those who don’t know it and strengthen those who do! Come to a meeting or e-mail us to find out about ways you can get involved and sample some of our discipleship material.
- Do you have a mailing list?
Yes. You can subscribe here.
